Edgewood Elementary ~ Okemos, Michigan
The students of Edgewood Elementary
created a poem using the poetic devices
of alliteration, simile and metaphor.

Spitting Monkeys

Spitting silly monkeys start marching down the street.
They like to eat bananas and also smell like feet.

Spitting monkeys are like fountains, squirting water all around.
Their overflowing spit has thrown me to the ground.

A spitting monkey is a big leak in a pressured pipe.
They're eating too many bananas, but at least they're ripe.

I watch them eat bananas with their feet,
the spitting silly monkeys, walking down the street.

Here is a haiku by Jared W.

The red plant is love.
Sweet smelling petals and thorns.
Valentine roses.
